This article is a very powerful story about the life Chris Washburn an ex-NBA player that I met years ago as a kid back in NewYork. There are many reasons why this story is so important to today's athletes. With the media attention that athletes receive today it is easy for a player to get caught up hanging with the wrong crowd. Each student-athlete should understand that things are not going to come easy in life, an individual have to take responsibility for one's actions and everyone has to work at everything they do in life.
In this article, Chris Washburn had everything handed to him because he was a talented athlete. Individuals would take responsibility for things that he did and he never face the consequence. After being drafted he into the NBA and seeing Lenny Bias die from drugs he continued to use drugs and wasted money on unnecessary things which eventual landed him in prison. This was the first time in his life where he was confronted on something and had to take responsibility for his actions. Obviously, his NBA career was over and the impact that it had on his future was tremendous. Chris talks about what he went through and how life has changed for him now at the age of 44.
As a coach and mentor for your boys and girls, we at Drive4Stardum emphasize that basketball is one aspect of a player's life. We stress that academics, character and having a work ethic equals success and all of this is up to ("U") the individual to have the drive to become a star in whatever arena that one chooses. In our program, we talk with our players about perspective ensuring that each individual is making the right choice(s) even when others (parents, coaches and supporters) are not looking. Enjoy the article.

Drive4Stardum After School Basketball Program
The Drive4stardum After School program, is design players to receive basketball conditioning, improve foot work, participate in intense basketball skills training, while shooting hundreds of shots to build muscle memory and apply the skill in game like environment. We will begin the program on Monday,September 9, 2013 until Thursday, November 21, 2013. Each training session will last for 1.5 hours Monday through Thursday. There are three different groups each day 4pm-5:30pm (1st group), 5:30pm-7pm (2nd group) and 7pm-8:30pm (3rd group). Age groups will vary each day for both boys and girls. Once groups are solidified, the calendar on the drive4stardum.net will show each group. An email confirmation will be sent out to each registered participant with a group number and letter. (ex: 1A,1B or 2A, 2B). This program is on a first come first serve basis and we cap the group between 10-12 participants. If you belong to a travel team, high school team, CYO or park and recreation group I would recommend you get your teammates or friends involved and either try to fill a group time together or attempt to have your group participate in one of the Fall Ball sessions during the weekend. This information is also on the website.
There are often times when participants want to participate on multiple days. If that is the case, you must contact us at drive4stardum@gmail.com or call 860-834-2809 to request multiple days of training (After School Program).
Again, all training will take place at the Drive4Stardum Basketball Training Facility.
Please do not hesitate to contact Drive4stardum (Donta Johnson) at the email and telephone number above.
Thanks for your interest.
Sincerely,
